THE DUNEDIN CONTEST.
CITY BAND'S EFFORTS.
RAISING THE BUNDS,
The Hamilton City Band has entered for the Dunedin contest and is making a keen endeavour to fulfil the trip. An energetic committee of local citizens has interested itself in this matter, witii the object of raising £3OO, the minimum that will bo requirel for the visit.
A pleasing feature of the proposals is the practical interest being taken in the trip by the members of the band. At their practice last night they guaranteed £7O from their own pockets towards the expenses fund, for which over £IOO is now in hand. The band is giving a concert at the Theatre Royal this evening, by which it'is hoped to augment the contest expenses to a liberal extent. On. February 13 a carnival will be held at the Lake' grounds with a similar object in view.
Good progress has been made by the band with the contest pieces, and it Should perform ci'editably at Dunedin.
