PERSONAL.

His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral, Sir Charles Fergusson, received General Sir George Richardson, Administrator of Samoa, at Government House, Auckland, yesterday. Mr J. McKinnon, cf Hamilton, left to-day by motor for Wellington, where he intends to remain about ten days.

Mr. H. C. Ross returned last night from a holiday trip to the South Island.

Dr. W. 11. Parkes and Mrs Parkes, of Auckland, are in Hamilton, and are at the Commercial Hotel. Rev. Fathers P. Fennessy and J. L. Gorry, of Sydney, arrived at Auckland on the Ulimaroa, on holiday. Mr G. Gladding, secretary of the Auckland Bowling Centre, is visiting Hamilton.

Messrs E. Madden, N. Cossey, and A. C. Norden, officials of the Auckland Bowing Association, were in Hamilton to-day.

Mr F. M. Oliver, secretary to the Cambridge Power Board, is attending the Dominion annual conference of Power Board secretaries at Dunedin. Sir Maui Pomare will leave Wellington to-morrow to open a native school at Makomako, near Kawhia, and will return on Tuesday. Mr F. J. Payne, of the Magistrate's Court staff at Hamilton, left last night to take over his new duties in the Supreme Court, Auckland, tp which he has been transferred.

The Rev. T. P. Weatherhog, who has been vicar at Otorohanga for the past year, has accepted a call to Taumarunui. The Rev. C. J. Bush-King will succeed Mr Weatherhog at Otorohanga-

Mr F. J. Smith, of Onga Onga, Hawke's Bay, is to succeed Mr W. T. Brabvn as Presbyterian missioner at Kihikihi. Mr Brabyn leaves next week for the Tirail-Putaruru charge after six years at Kihikihi. News has reached Dunedin that Bishop William W. Cassells, D.D., died at Paoning, in the province of Szechwan, China, on November 7 last, and that Mrs Cassels died on November 15, each after a brief illness of typhus fever.

At the final summer school session at Cambridge Mr L. M. Morrin, lessee of the Town Hall, was the recipient of a presentation from the teahers, in recognition of most valuable assistance given during their stay in Cambridge.

Mr Ronald McKenzie's resignation from the staff of the School of Art was accepted by the Canterbury College Board of Governors. After completing several commissions in New Zealand and Australia, Mr McKenzie intends going to Paris for further study.

Mr. F. W. Course was a Hamilton candidate to satisfy the examiners in the subjects, Jurisprudence and constitutional history, in L.L.B. examination while Mr. W. J. Branch passed in chemistry for B.A. and B.Sc. degrees. Sub-Inspector Hollis, of Wellington, who was recently promoted to the rank of inspector and transferred to Whangarei, was met by members of the police force and made the recipient, together with Mrs Hollis, of a tea service in recognition of his services in the city.

The knighthood recently conferred upon Sir Henry Brett was the subject of congratulatory reference at the meeting of the Auckland City Council last evening. The Council carried a resolution extending hearty congratulations to Sir Henry and Lady Brett and wishing them every happiness. Commissioner David C. Lamb, Director of the Salvation Army's migration work, arrived in liamilton about noon to-day. This afternoon he visited "The Nest," and addressed a meeting in the Council Chambers on Empire Migration. Later he continued his journey to Auckland by car.

Three of the members of the Hamilton bowling team, Messrs R. Pflkington, F. T. Wilson, and H. J. Wernham, who competed prominently atthe Dunedin Bowling Tournament, returned to Hamilton from Dunedin this morning. The other member of the team, Mr A. C. Mclntyre, will leave Dunedin to-day.
