The Auckland tennis championships commenced yesterday with the following results:— Ladies' Championship Singles.— First round: Miss M. Potter beat Miss Colebrook, 4—6 (Miss Colebrook retired) ; Miss McPherson beat Miss B. Sharpe, G—3, G—4; Mrs Scotl-Wat-son beat Miss. Asser, G—l, G—2; Miss N. MacCormick beat Miss N. Whitelaw, G—2, I—G,1 —G, 6—4; Miss Ramsay beat Miss Fearnlcy, 6—2, G—2; Miss D. Nicholls beat Miss M. Napier, G—3, G—2. Second round: Miss B. Knight beat Miss M. Macfarlane, G—l, 4—6, G—2; Miss Pottor beat Miss E. Craig, 9—7 ( g—i; Miss Nicholls beat Miss Ramsay, G—2, G—3; Miss P. Miller beat Miss Daines, G—2, 6—2.,
