ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
AN UNUSUAL ACCIDENT. TYRE FLYS OFF WHEEL. A rather unusual accident befel a tyre specialist Cros Moran, while fUting a tyre "on to a bus outside his business premises in Victoria Street, near the corner of Knox Street. It, is thought that Mr Moran had not tightened the bolt securely to the inner rim pf .the wheel and, the tyre sprang off, knocking him down. He was badly bruised about the right leg and sustained a cut on the upper lip. The sufferer was carried into his shop, where he later received medical attention. - : - - '■-• .--.:. ■.".'"---.-
AUCKLAND, Wednesday
William James Webb, aged 134, died in the hospital as a result of : injuries received while playing with a revolver. Cyril Franklin, a single man, is in a serious condition in the hospital from burns about the right arm .and 1 hand, caused by splashes from molten lead as cold flux was being poured into a ladle.
WAIHI, Wednesday.
A young man named Douglas B. Pollock, aged 21, was killed this morning near KatikatL It -appears a car which Pollock was driving capsized.' '"
An inquest touching the death of a Frenchman named Louis Henry, who was found dead in his hut at Whangamata on Monday,-was held yesterday by the coroner. When the coroner's party arrived' at the -hut they found deceased lying on his back in the fireplace. A post mortem was made by Dr Short, who deposed that the burns had occurred after, or about the time of death. Deceased's heart was atrophied and very weak. - There were also signs of old pleurisy in both lungs. Death was due to heart failure. The coroner returned a verdict to this effect. ' ',■■■■'.
HOKITIKA, Wednesday
A motor-car driven by Mr J. D. Lynch, of Greyrnouth, met a special train from Hokitika at the approach lo the northern end of the Aruhura lload cud railway bridge. The train, which vas a few yards away, pulled up in a remarkably short distance, but failed to avert a collision. The car was smashed up, but Mr Lynch and a passenger (Mr W. Barnett) had a miraculous escape. CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday.
The death occurred in hospital today of Mr William Leilze, aged 56, an employee of the Phoenix Insurance Company, residing at River Road*. New Brighton. He fell last evening from a tramcar which was entering New Brighton, and received severe injuries to the head.
WANGANUI, Wednesday
Two children,-Cecily Lay, ag-ed 10, and Elizabeth Alice McLean, aged 12, were drowned in tragic circumstances in the Wanganui River to-day. The victims were battling /with a party of children. .The* elder'girl got info difficulties and the younger one rushed in to help her out. Both got into a strong current and were drown 3d. The children had been warned not tc go bathing
