LATEST AUSTRALIAN RETURNS.
A LOSS OF £242,322

The annual report of the Post-master-General's department, tabled in the House of Representatives, showed that the net loss for the year ended June 30, 1925, was £242,322. The earnings of all branches totalled £10,074,854, an increase of £350,053 over .the previous year. The working expenses, excluding interest charges, totalled £9,230,629, an increase of £781,853. The previous year's operations showed a profit of £364,352.
The principal factors contributing to the changed financial aspect, compared with the previous year, were reductions in the postage rate £300.000, application of radial charges for telephone calls £82,000, reduced cable rate £17,500, mail steamer loss £47,000, various Arbitration Court awards £283,000.
