A MOTHER'S HEROISM.
FAMILIES ENTRAPPED IN FIRE.
, Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, January 27. A fire trapped three families who were in bed in a four-roomed tenement at Liverpool. The flames awakened Mrs Morton, who aroused the neighbours. She carried two of her own children into the street, and relumed by way of a blazing staircase to search for her husband and eight-year-old daughter. The flames, however, prevented' her reaching the bed, and she was forced to jump from a window into a blanket which the neighbours were holding. Again she heroically attempted to force her way upstairs, but collapsed owing to burns. Another resident, named Taylor, assisted his wife and child to escape, but remained to collect their clothing. He found his escape cut off, and climbed through the window and clambered on to the roof where he cowered in his night attire during a snowstorm; until a neighbour threw him blankets. The lire brigade rescued the remainder with the eception of Morton and his daughter, who were burned to death.
