SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY.
HAMILTON EAST METHODISTS.
Last Sunday, 15th inst., in Wesley Hall, Hamilton East, St. Johns Sund y School Anniversary was celebrated. Rev I E Parsons, of Auckland, was the'preacher for the day, and easily won the attention of all by his descriptive word Pictures. The sinking of the hymns, led by the orchestra, under the baton of Mr Wheatley was bristit and expressive, the children keeping up their record of R 5 )* In the afternoon Mr , Paps ?J® “played shop,” when foui ot ttm scholars came to purchase, J. 1 ' 11 * . I ’. “Kindness,” “Courage, and Lo\<y without money and without price. At the conclusion of the service, Rex. Parsons presented as Nouns shimiers’ League Prizes,” two books written bv himself —“The’ Splendid Guest” to ibe seniors and ‘ Tim Mouse, flint Stopped the Train’ to the juniors Sot i i entries for the Scripture examination 9 were successful. Miss Marjorie Leadley gaining over SO marks, and receiving a special prize. In the evening the orchestra preceded the service with a selection, “The Largo ” Mr Parsons took as his subject “Child life in the Bible,” and claimed ihc attention of bolh children and congregation alike. Mr Nancarrow sang a solo, “A Little Child, the children singing the chorus On the Monday evening the children gathered early to do justice lo the srood things provided by the ladies of the Church. Mr Trcloar occupied the chair for the evening’s entertainment, and in a happy little speech renewed his acquaintance with the children. Mr Parsons gave an interesting address, comparing the “child with a watch. Harold Reid recited in his usual captivating manner, “He’s No’ Born Yet,” Ihc singing of the children being a special feature. The secretary, Mr C. Leadley, reported favourably on the year’s work, and Miss J. Cooper, treasurer, read the. balance-sheet. The Supcrintendant, Mr Nancarrow, thanked all who had assisted in any way to make the entertainment a success. The programme was very brief, owing to the great number of prizes to be distributed; all senior scholars had to gain a percentage, but each child, under 9 received a prize. Two special prizes were given for maximum marks received, one to Miss Hazel Webber, and Hi c other to Master Jack Boal. The singing of an Anniversary Hymn and the Benediction brought an enjoyable evening lo a close.
