DRUNKEN MOTORISTS.
(To the, Editor.) Sir, —May I be allowed to correct a wrong impression that may be caused by a slight error which occurred in your report of the case where a drunken motorist was dealt with in the Police Court by Mr B. C. Lowry, J.P., and myself. I am reported to have said: “It had been the practice of a ‘previous’ magistrate to send drunken motorists to gaol." What I said was “experienced magistrates,” thereby indicating that if paid magistrates con-, sidered gaol a fit penalty, Justices might quite properly follow their lead. The word “previous" would make it appear that I was criticising the actions of our present magistrate, whereas such was not the case.—l am, etc., R. P. lIAYCOCK, J,P.
