CANADA AND U.S.A.
RETURNING CANADIANS. Tim Canadian Department of Immigration recently took issue with figures attributed to the United Slates Department of Labour, purporting to show that only. 2217 Canadians returned to Canada from the United Slates in the last fiscal year. The actual number of sueli returns, Canadian officials declared, was 32.5 GS and there could be no question as to the accuracy of this figure as ttic name of every individual was on record.
“It is impossible for the United States Government with its present machinery to check emigration across the international boundary,” said one official. “The department knows that the United States inspectors do not examine or record people entering Canada from the United States. In the last fiscal year the Canadian-born citizens who returned to Canada after a residence of six months or more in the United Slates, declaring their intention of remaining permanently in this country, were as follows:
“July (1924) 3320, August 4023, September 2952, October 284 4, November 2014, December 2018, January 1395, February 1041, March 2220, April 2599, May 2722, June 2514—a total of 32,508. “If to these are added the naturalised Canadians and their subjects who had acquired Canadian domicile the total Canadians returning in the twelve months of the American fiscal year was 38,173, instead of 2217 as stated in the dispatcli from Washington.”
