PARCEL STAMPS.
NEW RAILWAY SYSTEM. A parcel stamp system has been recently introduced into the Railway Department, and it is claimed that it is reducing office work. Stamps ranging in value from id to 5s in various denominations, and distinctive colours, can be purchased at railway stations in bulk or singly, as required, in exactly the same manner as at the post office. Each station has its own stamps, and has its name printed across the front.
For years the Railway Department has been in the habit of issuing stamps of value from id to Cd for affixing to parcels of newspapers and periodicals, but now these stamps, together with the new issue up to ss, can he used for all kinds of parcels and packages. In order to assist the railway employees large firms, who have big country connections, would be well advised to affix the stamps before the parcels leave the warehouse. Ry this means carters and carriers would be saved much time and inconvenience. It would also save considerable congestion at the railway station.
