CONDITION OF ROADS.
"ROUGH, BUT PASSABLE."
MOTORIST ASSOCIATION REPORT
One of the main objects of the Hamilton branch of the Auckland Automobile Association is to arm motorists with the necessary knowledge respecting the condition, of the roads in the district. The branch informs us that, communication between Hamilton and Auckland is now possible, although the stretch near the Mercer railway station is not easy of negotiation. A motorist who came through yesterday did not report a very enjoyable trip, and states that any more rain is likely to cause uncle sirablc consequences.
Although in reasonably pood order, the main road from Hamilton to Te Awamutu is bumpy and full of potholes. The Waipa County Council is, however, doing ils best lo improve matters, and at least it can be said that the thoroughfare is not likely to gc back any further. The connecting link between Te Awamutu and Te Kuiti is reported lo be in fairly good order, a distinct improvement having been Hie metalling of the formerly bad stretch between To Kawa and Otorohanga. The main mad between Te Kuiti and \\vakino is in a'surprisingly good condition. The Public Works Department has large gangs of men engaged ir maintaining the condition of what is undoubtedly one of the most important stretches of road in the island. In' fid motor travelling from Hamilton right through to Wellington is now reasonably easy. The road between Huntly and Ohinewal is rough but passable, a statement which can be generally applied to most of the other roads in the district. • __
