PREHISTORIC BRIDGE.
AN INTERESTING DISCOVERY. (Sydney Sun Cable.) RERUN, July 12. An interesting discovery has been made at Dortmund, in the Ruhr coal basin. Workers in a mine shaft unearthed a perfectly preserved oaken ' footbridge, 40 yards long. The structure consists of planed planks fastened with oaken clamps. It is believed that men of the ice age constructed the bridge across a marshy river bed. Archaeologists are of the opinion that it is 50,000 years old.
That is the most important prehistoric discovery made for years. It proves the intelligence and skill of the ice men, whose only implements were mammoth's teeth.
