VALEDICTORY.

POSTAL OFFICIAL HONOURED. PRESENTATION TO MR WHITE. The largest assemblage of officers ever seen in the Hamilton telegraph operating room assembled there yesterday afternoon to bid farewell to Mr C. W. White, senior supervisor of the telegraph branch, who recently received notice of promotion to the Napier Telegraph Office, and who leaves for Napier at the week-end. Mr W. T. Coad, the Chief Postmaster, presided over the gathering, and referred culogistically to the sterling qualities of the departing officer. He said that Mr White’s sense of justice, his fairplay, and humane dispoy sition had endeared him to every member of the staff, not only those who worked immediately under him, but to all who had even slighter official and private dealings with him. He wished Mr White every prosperity, and concluded by presenting him with a solid leather travelling bag, the gift of the staff.

The gathering was also addressed by Messrs Jackson (M.O. and SB.), Fredric (clerical), and Davies (telegraph operating). Mr White, who was visibly affected, replied, regretting that his promotion involved his leaving Hamilton, and statins his appreciation of the loyal and faithful service the officers of the department had rendered during his stay in Hamilton, which stay, although short, had been very pleasant. The gathering dispersed after three hearty cheers had been given for Mr and Mrs White and family and the singing of "For he’s a jolly good fellow.”
