THE DISMISSED CLERK.
(To the Editor)
Sir, —In my letter which appeared in your issue of 22nd inst, I endeavoured to point out to the unbelieving that Mr Davcy had submitted an ample defence in his report dated March 14, without the need to resort to his personal diatribe dated March 21. The report of the 14th was In the nature of a counter-charge against the findings of (lie Investigation Committee, and, failing its presentation in the ordinary way, it was for the members of that committee to move in the matter of having the report dealt with by the Council. The report dated March 21 contained personal charges against myself, which I considered to. lie incorrect, and, in my opinion, it was the duty of the Mayor lo bring the report before the Council at tiio meeting held on March 25. As lie failed to do so, I took the first opportunity of moving in the matter at the meeting held on April 1. Mr Davcy, In bis letter which appeared in your issue of the 27th inst., charges me with a deliberate delay in moving in the matter with the intention of giving my associates on the Council time lo decide on concerted action. I have no hesitation in saying that this charge is absolutely false, and quite in keeping with the attitude of mind which inspired the sentiments expressed in Mr Davcy’s report dated March 21. Your correspondent is apparently a past-master' in the art of innuendo, and concludes his icltor with a reference to myself almost identical with one; which be has already been compelled in common decency to withdraw. —I am, etc.,
JOHN McKINNON. Ciaudclands, Hamilton. April 281 b, 1925.
