OBITUARY.
GIACOMO PUCCINI.

Giacomo Puccini, the composer of "Lo Boheme," "Madame Butterfly," etc., died in the arms of his daughter in a nursing home. He arrived there ten days ago for the purpose of an operation on the larynx. He underwent radium treatment, and benefited from it, but collapsed unexpectedly under a heart attack.
MR ALEX. W. THOMSON. An old resident of Hamilton, in the person of Mr Alcander Wallace Thomson, passed away at the Waikato Hospital on Friday last at the ripe age of 80. Deceased came to the Dominion in the early 'so's, landing in Dunedin. He went lo the Dunstan goldflclds, and subsequently, with his brother, started farming in the Hawera district. In 1879 he came further north, and took up holdings in Bombay and Ararimu South. Thirty-two years ago he came to Waikato, and for a number of years look up framing near Frankton. He retired ,14 years ago, and has has since resided at Frankton. He was a sterling settler, and was greatly esteemed by all who knew him. He leaves seven sons and four daughters to mourn their loss. His wife predeceased him by' five years. The interment took place at the Hamilton West Cemetery yesterday afternoon, Bev. A. M. Aspland officiating at the graveside.
