B. AND F. BIBLE SOCIETY.
HAMILTON’S EFFORT. Some time ago the. organising secretary of the British and Foreign Bible Society visited Hamilton, and as the result of his efforts a band of collectors was formed who undertook to canvass Tor subscriptions to the Society’s funds. The members of the band entered into the w,ork with considerable zest, and. the third canvass, just completed, has proved the most successful, £IOB 11s lid being raised, made up as follows:
The work of the Society is one that appeals, and its operations are rapidly extending. Last year 8,540,000 volumes of the Seriptures were distributed, £353,000 being expended in translation into various languages and dialects. At. a meeting of the Auckland branch of the Society, held on Thursday evening, Rev. A. T. Thompson stated that practically 350,000,000 people of the Empire now had the word of God available in their own language or dialect, and none could deny that unification could be maintained largely by the power of the Seriptures. A motion of congratulation on Mr Thompson’s appointment to the secretarial position with the Society in Australia, and of appreciation of his services in New Zealand, was carried by acclamation.
