Social Gatherings. The first of a series of progressive euchre socials was held in the Memorial Hall. Prizes were given for most points gained with the cards, and the successful players were Miss Edna and Mr Eric Moon. After supper dancing was indulged in, the music being supplied by Mr G. Dent. The members*of the Okete Ladies' Hockey Club held their annual concert on Wednesday, September 10. The Memorial Hall was prettily decorated with the club's colours and greenery, and the programme presented reflected great credit on the organisers. A presentation was made to Miss Harsant on the eve of her departure to take up nursing in the Waikato Hospital. The present was a silver wristlet watch .subscribed to by residents of Okete, Kauroa, Te Uku and Waitetuna districts. Miss Harsant has been an enthusiastic member of the tennis and hockey clubs of Okete and Te Uku, and will be greatly missed. To celebrate the opening of their store at Te Uku, Mr and Mrs J. K. Weir entertained the residents of the district at a social cveniDg in the Memorial Hall, on Monday, September 15. The- hall was tastefully decorated and a large number availed themselves of Mr and Mrs Weir's hospitality. Dancing was a feature of the evening and the following musical items were Contributed:—Overture, Mrs F, Peart; song, Mr Geo Lusty; violin solo, Mrs O. Wallis; chorus, Glee party; song, Mrs F. Peart; duet, Mrs F. Peart and Mr Geo. Lusty; song, Mr Reg.'Hunt; chorus, Glee Party; song, Mr J. Russell;; comic song, Mr. E. O. Wallis; sang, Mrs A. W. Moon. Dance music was provided by Mrs A. Livingstone of Whatawhata, assisted by Mr G. Dent.
