SALE OF PEDIGREE JERSEYS.
The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report:—At Marshlands we held a sale of pedigree jersey cattle, on account of Mr W. .1. Chvnowclh, arranged with the intention of reducing his herd, which had grown to considerable dimensions. The attendance was not so large, as the enquiry forecasted, but was nevertheless fairly representative. Competition for the choicest lots' was brisk enough, but in many instances the figure reached did not, approach the vendor's valuation, and these were in consequence passed in. The highest price registered (145 guinea?) was for lot 9, the two year Jersey heifer, "Marshlands Fern's Eminent" 19311, a daughter of one of the vendor's high testing dams. The purchasers were Messrs Martin and Murray, Christchurch. Mr A. E. Watkins, Taranaki, gave OOgns for lot 11, "Marshlands Best." The same purchaser secured lot. 1,4, "Marshlands Golden Lady," at 72ghS. Lot 20, the Island-bred cow, "Golden Fern's Maid." fell to Mr W. H. Miers, Rukuhia, at 140gns. Mr Waterhouse- was the purchased of lot I~>,
"Distinguished Lady," at 67 gns. Lot, 1, -'Marshlands King Fern," fell to Mr a'. C. Smith, Otorohanga, at 62gns. The average of the 12 heifers sold was 57gns. Of the cows sold, apart from I hose mentioned above, prices ranged from 20gns to 55gns. Of the 12 bulls offered, only one was sold, viz.. lot 50, "Marshlands Victor," to Mr W. T. Hutchinson, Putamaohoe, for GOgns.
