WED TO GET AN INN LICENCE.
Miss Bertha Alice Vausc, who is 25, has been married to enable her to fulfil a stipulation of the Selby, Yorks, Licensing Bench.
For some time she has been keeping house for her uncle, who died suddenly a month ago after being landlord of the Brown Cow Inn, Barlow, for more than ten years, and when Miss Vause applied for the licence as the house had been in the Vause family for 70 years the Selby magistrates decided to grant a temporary transfer on the understanding that .Miss Vause got married before 10.30 a.m. on March 31.
A marriage with Mr 11. Cohwick, of Beverly, was hurriedly arranged and look place at Brayton Parish Church, near Selby, at 9.50 a.m.. on the 31st. With GO minutes only to spare, a powerful motor-car rushed the couple back to the old inn 5 miles away. A rapid change of attire from the bridal costume and a 5-mile dash back to Selby followed and at 10.50 precisely the bride stepped into the witness box at the Selby Police Court, produced her marriage lines, and was granted the licence of the old family inn.
