NEW ZEALAND FINANCE.

REQUEST BY LABOUR MEMBERS. WANT EXACT POSITION DEFINED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Canterbury Labour members have sent a lengthy address to Mr Massey, in which they demand that 'the public should be made aware of the exact financial position of the Dominion at the earliest moment. They pont out that Mr P. Snowden found it possible to present an £800,000,000 Budget and to disclose the British surplus as at 31st March, but we in New Zealand are left to speculate what the financial position Is, because in many important departments no figures have been published beyond December, and the Government Statistician is 'prevented from publishing the January, February and March figures until the Finance Minister chooses to 'declare the surplus for this year. They suggest that _ this wj(holding of these figures is quite a recent innovation, and is being done purposely, because the public servants are asking for increases and might learn that there is plenty of money in the Treasury. They assert that it is abundantly plain that the surplus this year will be more than double that of last year, and will be in the region of £3.000,000.
