The locomotive drivers and firemen, following a lengthy conference, announced their resolution, stating: "We feel it would be a gross betrayal of the members' and workers; generally to withdraw strike notices. We cannot fail to recognise the obstinacy of the general managers and their unbending attitude in demanding that the decision of the National Awards Board should constitute an Arbitration Court award, which prohibits the right to collective bargaining. X ... ' i The resolution concludes by placing the responsibility on the managers for. failure to effect a.settlement.;. The day was frenzied with industrial conferences, which ended at 2.30 in tlie morning, when It was announced that the locomotive men refused to agree to the -tentative proposals which were drawn up as /the result of an earlier meeting of the General Council of. Trade Unions and railways managers, but there still remains ■ the possibility of another meeting with the manager to-dry After the fruitless meeting of the Council yesterday morning,- the latter immediately despatched a message requesting a meeting' with' the managers, and suggested Hie temporary postponement of the award. > - The meeting then adjourned till today to enable the Labourites to discuss the proposals separately, with the aforementioned results;.'■'',•'-.'! ; '/■
