WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Waikato County Council held yesterday was attended by Messrs J. P. Bailey (chairman), T.llinton, T. Clarkin, T. H. Henderson and W. Henry. It was decided to support the agitation, by the Bay of Islands County Council, for the Government to apportion part of the money taken from soldier settlers in payment of rent and arrears of rent be allocated to local bodies in part payment of rates. The Minister of Public Works agreed to the expenditure of £350 provided on the current year's estimates for the Bau-o-to-huia bridge. The Public Works Department forwarded £.'535 12s 5d as the second and final payment, on the Orini to Tauhei road contract. The chairman and Cr. Henry were deputed to inspect and report on a road for closing through the northern corner of Mr A. 11. Waring's property at Taupiri. Mr J. F. Goodwin, Maramua, drew attention to the necessity for altering the drainage facilities available to his property. Cr. Taylor was appointed to enquire into the matter.
Messrs Proctor Bros., Orini, asked that, attention be given to the road in their immediate area, and Cr. Henry is to investigate the needs. Mr e\. M. Leek, Ngaruawahia, was granted permission to lay a lin. pipe under the River Boad to carry water for stock purposes.
Mr P. C. Tarrant reiterated a request, to the Council for improvements fo his road at Newstead, and Cr. Ilinton was authorised to deal with the request. Mr J. Barker was re-appointed dogtax collector for the current year. The Council sanctioned the closing of the office for the Christmas and New Year holidays from Saturday, December 22, until Monday, January
