CHORAL SOCIETY.
"THE MESSIAH." It would almost seem unnecessary to even remind our readers that the Choral Society arc rendering Handel's immortal work on Tuesday week in the Theatre Royal. The occasion is one that should not be missed by any lover of good music. The soloists engaged are probably the best that could have been secured in New Zealand and the Commonwealth. Miss Ethel Osborn comes with a reputation that has added to its lustre by her work in the South. Miss Osborn has the distinction of possessing the highest range of the present generation of singers. Miss Laura Stone is too well known in Hamilton to need commendation, especially after her work in "Elijah." Her singing of "O Rest in the Lord" on that occasion will never be forgotten. Mr Arthur Ripley is undoubtedly the leading tenor in New Zealand to-day. To hear him sing "Comfort Ye" and "Every "Valley Shall be Exalted" will be to understand what a true tenor voice is like, backed up with an artistic treatment one might term "Riplean." Mr Len Barnes is the baritone, and he has come all the way from London to sing in "The Messiah" at Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Hamilton and Auckland, in the order mentioned. Mr Barnes is a New Zealander who has been touring America, the Continent of Europe and Great Britain for the last eight years. Tickets arc selling freely, and patrons are asked to buy at once and reserve at Lewis' Eady's, where the plan opens at S a.m. on Monday next.
