DEPUTATIONS AT GISBORNE.

Hon. J. G. Coates arrived overland from Napier last evening, and left this morning for the Waiapu district Returning to Gisborne on Monday the Minister will leave for the Urewera country, via Hungaroa. Deputations from local bodies presented district requirements in road and railway matters, strongly .urging the authorised Ilcngaroa route for the Gisborne-southwards railway in preference to the coastal route now being surveyed. The Minister declared the position required thorough and considerate thought. Where, the expenditure of £1,000,000 was involved it was absolutely essential that care should be taken until the surveys were completed. He could say no more .
