The Inverness correspondent of the Daily Express says that the Battle of Culloden was re-fought on the old battlefield for the film by forces of Highlanders and English cavlary and infantry drawn from the Gordon and Soaforth Highlanders. The Camerons were complete in old-time equipment, and a thrilling incident was re-enacted at the old thatched house where Gillies Macßean stood beack to the wall and slew thirteen Englishmen. Joe Beckett has decided to settle down at Southampton, and has bought a house in the suburbs. There are 815 divorce cases set down for hearing at the forthcoming sittings of the Law Courts, of which 664 will be undefended. The Australian and New Zealand Press Association's representative understands that the position of Governor of New South Wales, vacant by the lamented death of Sir W. Davidson, will be offered to a well-known officer of the Royal Navy. The Prime Minister of Portugal, Senor Davilva, has been presented with the Grand Gross of the British Empire.
Mr Vevinstein, chairman of the Manchester Society of Chemical Industry, in a speech said the exhibition of British chemical science at the Empire Exhibition would enhance the prestige of trade throughout the world. It would create the most favourable atmosphere amongst the oversea buyers and reveal the advance made by Britain's chemistry since 1914—especially organic chemistry. The Duke and Duchess of York, accompanied by Lords Glamis . and Doune, paid a surprise visit to the Forfar golf course, which was practically deserted. Caddies were unobtainable, and the party had to carry their own clubs. They played fourteen holes and returned to Glamis Castle on Wednesday.
