BOROUGH TO COUNTY.

A TE AWAIHUTU REQUEST. assessed on potential value. There is a movement on. foot for one portion of the Te Awamutu borough area to be transferred to the Waipa County. Messrs A. H. Trubshaw and C. H. / Sargent appeared before the County yesterday in support of a petition from 23 landowners whose properties were situated on the north-eastern side of the Mangahoe stream, and asked that the Council agree to the transference of 327 acres ''from the Te Awamutu borough to the county. It was stated' that the land comprised small farms for the main part, and on account of a goodly portion of it being reclaimed swamp it was never likely to have much prospective value for building. Meantime, it was'asserted, they were paying on the potential value which, it was claimed, was unjust. The chairman pointed out that ■ all that would be saved would be the difference between the borough rate and the county rate. However, it was maintained by the deputation that that would be no small item. The chairman intimated that he would investigate the position with the riding member and advise the ratepayers concerned of the action decided on.
