OBITUARY.
VETERAN OF MAORI WAR. A former resident of Onehunga, Mr William Kirwen Purcell, died at Rolorua at the age of 7G years. Be was for many years a mechanician at, Rolorua baths. Mr Purcell was born at Atblone, Ireland, and was brought to Auckland when he was an infant. He joined the Waikato militia in 1803, and served throughout the war against the Maoris, and later ' was awarded Ihe New Zealand Medal. When Ihe Thames goldfield was opened in 1867, Mr Pureed was a passenger by the third boat which took the men who were in the first rush lo the new El Dorado. He remained at Thames till 1878, and two years later settled at Rotorua. In 1882 he received Ihe appointment at the baths. Mr Purcell leaves a widow and gYown-up family.
