RECEPTION OF IMMIGRANTS
LOCAL COMMITTEES NECESSARY".
COULD RENDER VALUABLE SERVIC3
Commenting upon the recent visit of the Overseas Settlement Commission, Mr A. M. Bisley, president of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, stated last night that Sir William Windhem had expressed the opinion to him that before a large number of settlers were sent out, some society; should be formed to see that tho immigrants received proper treatment on arrival, and from time to time as required. Sir William gave - the speaker to understand that such societies were in existence in various states in Australia. They received large grants from the Government, and were rendering a very valuable, service to new settlers. This was a matter, the speaker added, in which, that Chamber should take a leading part. He proposed to bring the subject forward at the next meeting of the Chamber, when suggestions front ■members would be greatly appreciated.
