THE POUNDKEEPER
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l notice a recent notice re the p'oundkeepcr. Now, sir, in fairness to a lot of returned Diggers do you not think it would have been better for the Hamilton Borough and the Waipa County Council to have called applications for the position of poundkeeper, as there are a number of unfit men (I mean for hard work) that could fill that job and devote their whole time to same? I have no fault to find with the appointee as I know the gentleman very well and know the residents will have no need to stop up all night watching for stray cattle when he is about, but the least the above council could do is to give every one a chance to get a living when we are paying rates and out of work through war wounds. Every little helps.—l am, etc., F. PARKER.
