RANDWICK PLATE CONTEST. A MEMORABLE STRUGGLE. (Received October 8, 11.30 a.m. SYDNEY, October 8. The totalisator investments for the spring carnival were £316,624, against £350,972 in 1922. The reduction is attributed to the smaller attendance following the withdrawal of Beauford and Gloaming. The Press generally pays a tribute to the excellent struggle in the Randwick Plate, the honours going to Rivoli' for winning, but David and Rapine are also sharing in the praise for their moral victory. Photographs of the finish mostly show only the near side horse, Rivoli, so closely were the three locked together as they Hashed past the judge. As the result of the performance, Rapine, it is now understood, is going to Melbourne.
