TE KOWHAI.

Tennis Club. The Te Kowhai tennis courts were officially opened on Saturday last by the president, Mr It. Gillespie. About 30 local players were present, and it is expected that the membership roll will total 50 before the end of the season. Afternoon tea was supplied by the ladies, and a very pleasant day spent. The Hall. The annual meeting of the Hall Committee was held on Monday evening, the attendance being poor and very little interest displayed. The election of committee resulted: Messrs J. Mathers (chairman), V. Booth (secretary and treasurer), C. A. Magner, 0. Hall, A. Porter, S. Handley, F. Mathers, T. Nicol, and N. Holmes. GORDONTON. Tennis. At the annual meeting of the Tennis Club there was a fair attendance of members, the president (Mr A. G. Parfltt) presiding. The report and balance sheet showed that the past year had been a successful one, there being a satisfactory credit balance of £25 Is 9d. Owing to the large number of members it has been decided to start immediately to make another court on the ground at the back of the Presbyterian Church. This should »help to accommodate the players until a permanent piece of ground can be obtained. The ladder competition matches proved a success last year, and it has been decided this year to give a trophy to the lady and gentleman player who top the ladder at the end of the season. The club intends to provide the balls', but owing to the increased expense of erecting the new court the subscriptions have been raised—men 15s, ladies 10s. Play this year will open with a tournament, to be held on Saturday, October 13. The following officers were elected: President, Mr A. G. Parfltt; vice-presidents', Messrs .T. S. Laidlaw, J. Carswell, :C. Clark, J. J. Riddell, F. Wood: secretary and treasurer, Miss I. F. Anderson; committee, Misses J. Riddell, V. Morgan, G. Wood, G. Harman. Messrs' D. 0. Laidlaw, A. Thomson, R. Forsman, D. Riddell; selector, Mr D. 0. Laidlaw; club captain, Mr D. Riddell.'
