OTAGO FARMER FINED.
BLUNDERING AND NEGLIGENCE

Patrick Toomey, a farmer, was fined £SO on each of two charges of making false income tax returns. The prosecution sTated that the return submitted in 1919 showed a loss of £2 40, whereas accused’s income was actually £2279. For tho next year the taxable income return put in was £289, instead of £IG92. Defendant’s counsel contested those figures and the method of assessment, but tho Alagislrato stated them had been considerable blundering and negligence on the part of defendant.
