THE TOURIST TRAFFIC.
OPENING OF SEASON.
VISITORS BEGINNING TO ARRIVE. Visitors arc already beginning to arrive from abroad for the tourist season, which is now opening in the Dominion. From Inquiries made by a New Zealand Times' representative, there is every indication of a successful season. ' It will be remembered that the Taupo earthquakes of last year had a bad effect on the tourist traffic, particularly from Australia and the United States, where reports were grossly exaggerated. These stories deterred many visitors from making the trip across. Recent information from Rotorua, however, states that visitors are arriving there, and that conditions generally are brightening after a somewhat quiet winter. Several' parties of Americans are already visiting different parts of the Dominion. It was stated that one party had already spent over £IOOO in the country, travelling expenses alone totalling over £SOO. It is quite possible that New Zealand will be some £2OOO the richer from this one party alone after their deprature from our shores. This will give some Indication as to what visitors will spend, and emphasises the value of advertising abroad. > The Milford track will open on November 1, and booking up to the present gives every indication of a considerable number of visitors making this trip during the season. Severai Wellingtonians have made the journey to Taupo recently, and report that delightful weather has been experienced. -
