LONDON WOOL BALE, Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., are in receipt of the following cable from their London office, under, date 28th ultimo:— Wool.—Sales closed active and competition brisk, especially for crossbred. ' As compared with last sales' closing rates, merino wool, greasy.ld to ijd higher; scoured unchanged; halfbred wools, greasy id to 2d high- *t er; fine quality greasy crossbred, id j& higher; medium and coarse, par to id higher; Ane quality scoured crossbred, par to id higher; medium and coarse unchanged; slipe wools, par to id higher; medium and coarse, change if any is in buyers'. favour; short pieces, bellies, and locks, very good demand. Belgian and French buyers are principal operators for merinos. English buyers are buying medium and coarse quality crossbred wools freely. 153,000 bales and 70,000 B.A.W.R.A. catalogued; 192,000 bales sold, including 12,000 South American; 95,000 to the Continent, 1000 to America,- 96,000 for Home trade; carried forward; -37,000 of which 20,500 were not offered. . The following is the range of prices realised: Merino, good to super 27d to 29d, low to medium 22Jd t 6 26d; halfbred, 56-58 good to super 25d to 28d, low to medium 20d to 23Jd;- 50-56 good to super 19d to 22d, low to medium 17d to 18Jd; 48-50 good to super Is 3Jd to is sd; low to medium is ijd to Is 3d; Ane crossbred, 46-48 good to super 14d to 15Jd, low to medium 12d to i3Jd; crossbred, 44-46 good to super 12id to 14d, low to medium 9Jd to lid; coarse crossbred, 36-40 super lid, low to medium. The New Zealand Loan and Mer-i cantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:—Al Westfleld fat stock market on Wednesday beef was penned in large numbers, the majority being unAnished, which sold at late quotations. Good J quality and prime cattle sold under keen competition, prices again improve ing on last week's report. We quote: Extra choice oxen to 37s per 1001 b, choice and prime oxen 32s to 365, plain and unAnished oxen 23s to 295, prime cow and heifer beef 28s to 34s per 1001 b, other cow beef 20s to 275, rough beef 12s to 19s. No extra heavy prime steers were penned. Heavy prime steers sold at from £ls to £l7 15s, medium prime steers £l3 to £l4 17s 6d, light prime steers £lO to £l2 17s 6d, smaller and unAnished steers £6 to £9 10s, heavy prime cows and heifers £7 15s to £9 12s 6d, medium prime cows and heifers £6 7s 6d to £7 10s, light prime cows and heifers £4 10s to £6 ss, interiorly fatted cows £2 to £3 17s 6d. Calves were penned in average numbers and sold under keen competition at late quotations. Runners £4 10s to £5 ss, heavy vealers £2 10s to £3 10s, medium £i 18s to £2 7s, light £i 7s to £i 15s, smaller 10s to 235, small and freshly dropped 3s to Bs. Pigs were penned in average numbers and sold at late quotations. Store pigs sold in average numbers and sold readily at improved values. Large stores 35s to £2 13s, slips 29s to 345, weaners 15s to 28s. >

Beef: An average yarding, bidding was slack to start with, but improved as the sale proceeded, and on the whole there Was a rise in values, especially In really prime. Sheep: A small yarding sold very readily at late rates. No extra heavy wethers yarded. Calves: A good yarding sold very readily, small calves being in better demand; competition was very keen.
