: The story of an alleged attack with an iron bar by a masked man was related at Croydon Police Court, when Stanley Smith, 22, a butcher's assistant, of no fixed abode, was charged with going grievous bodily harm to Frederick George Bisley. Smith, a powerfully built young man was formerly In the employ of Bislcy's father,' but was discharged about a month ago. On Tuesday afternoon young Bisley heard a noise at the back of the premises, and on going to investigate the cause was struck on the head with an iron bar. "The blow was struck by a man wearing a mask," he said, "but I knew who the man was by his stature. I was wearing a straw hat at the time and this guarded the blow." Smith, who was found lying in a ditch, was remanded for mfflcdical observation.
