GENERAL CABLES.
AUSTRALIAN.
United Press Association. SYDNEY, October 3.
A motion proposing the re-admission of League players to the Rugby Union fold was amended by providing' that it be confined to players who received no payment for playing during 1923. The amended motion will be discussed on October 10.
The press controversy respecting conduct at the artists' ball left readers somewhat bewildered in view of the emphatic conflicting reports in the different dailies. The police now report that the ball conducted on proper lines in the upstairs of the Town Hall, but there was unseemly behaviour on the part of -male and female dancers at an overflow dance ia-the basement, where*dancers, of both sexes showed signs of over-indulgence in liquor. The Labour Papers, Ltd., obtained a verdict for £IOO in an action against the Daily Mail in respect to, an article in October last dealing with the dismissal of a woman cleaner at MacDonno'll House, the headquarters of the proposed Labour Daily.
