THE MINING TROUBLE.
EARLY RETURN PREDICTED. LACK OF FINANCIAL HELP. By Telegraph.—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. "The coaltniners have absolutely no hope of holding out much longer," said one West Coast authority to-day. He stated that the financial assistance forthcomfng was not nearly sufficient to enable the miners and their dependants to live. The watersiders were one strong body of workers which had not supported the miners' exchequer and the generosity of the storekeepers in supplying goods on credit was now being severely strained 1 . By the end of this week, he said, it was probable the miners would begin to ask the union leaders what they intended to do. The next development would most likely be the giving of the undertaking asked by the mine owners that the Arbitration Court's award would be observed.
