e '■ — WELCOMED AT 'AUCKLAND. By Telegraph.—Press Association. AUCKLAND, Thursday. A pleasant gathering took place at the Ministerial Rooms, chief post office, yesterday morning, when the new Minister for Internal Affairs, the Hon. R. F. Bollard, member for Raglan, was met by several friends and prominent members of the northern section of the Reform Party and welcomed on the occasion of his first official visit as a Minister to Au6kland. "Very cordial references were made by the speakers to Mr Bollard's long service as a member of Parliament, his steady and unostentatious work, and lo his elevation to Ministerial rank, upon which he was heartily congratulated. One speaker said that the high political reputation which Mr Bollard's father, as a veteran member, had deservedly earned, was being fully maintained by his son. The distinction conferred on M r Bollard was wellmerited and pleasing to his friends. * Mr Bollard, in replying, said it was vcr» pleasing to him to receive so cordial a welcome. In his new position he would do his utmost in assisting to advance the interests of the country and the welfare of all. * His present visit to Auckland was a brief one, but from the many matters arising in the city and district with which the departments under his charge were concerned a long interval would not elapse before he was back again. The Auckland members of the Reform Party proposed later to extend a reception to, Mr Bollard.
Mr Bollard will leave for the Waikato to-morrow morning.
