PEDIGREE CATTLE.

BREEDERS’ ANNUAL SALE.

GOOD ATTENDANCE OF BUYERB.

JERSEYS SELL WELL. Claudelands Showground is the centre of attraction to-day_ for farmers ail over the district and even beyond, the attraction being the eighth annual sale of pedigree cattle, held under the auspices of the Waikato Combined Breeders’ Association, and conducted by the three auctioneering firms of Dalgety and Co., Ltd., New Zealand Loan.and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., and the Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd. Buyers are present in strong force, and the attendance is probably a record. The entries are in advance of last year, there being no less than ‘ 385 lots catalogued, which constitutes another record 1 for the Association. The quality of the animals coming forward was generally good, and the selection committee appointed to reject undesirable and inferior specimens found that they had very little to do. Bidding as a whole was brisk, especially for bulls of good butter-fat average. The Jerseys were most in demand, the briskness of the bidding demonstrating clearly the popularity of the breed in these parts. Top price was registered by Mr F. J. Saxby, of Ohaupo Road, whose yearling bull was sold for 200gns., to Mr J. B. Aicken, of Pukekohc. The next best price, 165gns., was also secured by Mr Saxby. The Jerseys were still selling as we went to press.

Shorthorns also sold well, although not in such good demand as the Jerseys. Mr T. C. Blackett’s bull, (Ryedale Cantator, realised top price, being disposed of at 44gns. to Mr E. H. Joll, Te Rapa. Two bulls offered by the Hon. J. Fisher realised 38 and 43 guineas respectively. Other prices obtained ranged from 15 to 35 guineas. Friesians were slow of sale, but several good prices w«re realised, the most noteworthy up till the time of our going to press being the disposal of Mr A. W. Chapman’s yearling bull for 61gns. to Mr Discombe, Hautapu. The disappointment of the sale was the demand for Ayrshires, which was practically negligible. Bidding was lifeless and 1 prices were very low. The sale will be continued tomorrow, when any lots left unsold will be offered.
