ENTERTAINMENTS.

TOM MIX AT STRAND. A most entertaining programme will be shown at the popular New Strand Theatre to-night. Whirlwind action, with bright spots of romance, marks the picture. "For Big Stakes" is a Fox production, starring Tom Mix. It 13 replete with adventure. It has a love story, too, of exceeding charm. The photo-play is a wholesome, worth while tale of the way of a man with a maid. The sands and hills of Arizona, the clear skies, the outdoor life —all are here. The acting of Tom Mix —in fact, of the entire cast—is of the highest order. Tom's riding, shooting and rope-throwing long ago placed him in the front rank of Western screen actors. His horse, Tony, docseverything but talk. The photography is above the average, the movement of the story never lags, the direction throughout is good, and there are several surprises that will not be described here, for they arc too good to be spoiled by foreknowledge. Probably the most outstanding single incident in this photo-play is the prairie fire through which Tom Mix rides to save his sweetheart. One of the famous Al St. John comedies and a long Goldwyn drama, " Poverty of Biches," a picture with an all-star cast, will complete a splendid show. Seats may be booked at Lewis R. Eady and Son, Ltd., or by theatre 'phone 1422.

ENID BENNETT AT FRANKTON. Enid Bennett, Australia's own screen star, will delight to-night at Frankton's Own Theatre in her brilliant Paramount picture " Hairpins." Brownie the Wonder Dog will star in the big comedy " Sting 'Em, Sweet Brownie," a thrilling section of " The Lion Man" will bo shown, and the International News and " Burton Holmes' Travalogue" will be added attractions.

BARRYMORE IN "SHERLOCK HOLMES." John Barrymore, most eminent of living actors, will be seen to-night at the Theatre Royal in his now worldfamous presentation of Conan Doyle's great detective in Wm. Gillette's dramatisation of " Sherlock Holmes." The supporting cast, including Gustave von Seyffertitz as Moriarty is regarded by the critics as being the finest coterie of celebrated players ever got together for a picture. The acting is magnificent indeed. livery effort was made by the producers to get an effect of absolute and intimate authenticity. To this end many of the important scenes were taken in Limehouse, Baker Street, and other sections of London, Scotland Yard, St. John's College, Cambridge, and in Switzerland. The success of the picture wherever it has been shown has been phenomenal. Hamilton picture-goers may anticipate a fine treat of a high order. " Sherlock Holmes " will be preceded by Paramount's feature actress, May McAvoy, in " Morals," a fine picturing of \V. J. Locke's great novel and playj " The Morals of Marcus," which had a tremendous vogue and is now vastly popular in pictures. A special music programme will embellish the screenings. Scats should be reserved at Paul's to avoid disappointment. ,
