ELECTION OF MEMBERS. I G H T RAILWAYS. XUE, the undersigned Ratepayers, are '* Candidates for too Permanent Board and opposed to the scheme going any further, and, if elected, can promise sp°edy enlightenment as to what lias already been done. We earnestly request every thinking man to vote for the Opposition and save another mortgage being put on your property:— CAMPBELL JOHNSTONE, A. G. DENT, \V. J. MARX. ' E. H. GREY, E. S. RYBURN, J. H. GORE, ' S. SLOW, G. BATEMAN, D. B. LIVINGSTONE. 759 VXfAIKATO QOAST J^IGHT FLECTION OF PERMANENT BOARD. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE ABOVE RAILWAY DISTRICT.

WE, the undersigned, having been '' members of the Provisional Board, since its inception nearly four years ago, have been requested by a '•arge number of ratepayers to offer our services for a seat on the Permanent Board. We have now decided to contest the election. As stated above ve have been interested in the Light Railway Scheme from the beginning. WE CONSIDER: (i) THAT the roading methods adopted in Waikato West are not adequate for the advancement of the district. (2) THAT better means of transport are required throughout the district. (3) THAT the heavy traffic requires to be alleviated from the main roads. (4) THAT the County Councils have failed to regulate the motor lorry •■traffic. (5). THAT vast areas of idle land require to be brought into a state of productiveness. i,6) THAT local industries—coal, timber, lime and metal—should be encouraged. (7) THAT the Ports of Raglan and Kawhia should be opened up. Being large ratepayers in the Railway District, we do not wish to hurry the construction of the line, but to investigate the scheme fully, to have the sul'vey and plans in readiness, and to proceed with its construction whenever it is the wish of the ratepayers. Contrary to the desire of the Opposition Candidates, we wish to preserve the work already done by the Provisional Board with public Money, and have no desire to incur additional taxation throughout the railway district. We consider that outlying portions of the district require 'adjusting, while other parts should be omitted from the rating area. If elected we will endeavour to discharge our duties in a fair and impartial manner. We therefore earnestly solicit your support.. DAVID E. FINLAYSON. W. COOPER-SMITH. 139 EDUCATIONAL.
