N.Z. FARMERS’ UNION.
CAMBRIDGE BRANCH. Th monthly meeting of the Camfrridge branch of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union was held in the Farmers’ Club room on Friday afternoon. Thost present were the chairman (Mr R. Feist) and a good attendance of members. The -chairman reported that the date for holding the dinner was fixed for October 2i. He hoped that all members would use their best efforts to make the function a huge success. Speylng of Cows.
A letter was received from “Shepherd’s. Horsebreakers,” Danneyirke, offering to spev cows in this district at the rate of 2s fid per head, providing a minimum of 17 cows per day could ho done, equalling £2 2s fid ppr day. i This would mean that farmers would have to facilitate the moving of the -operators from farm to farm so that, the least possible time might be lost. It was decided to write to the firm of "Shepherd’s Horsebreakers” asking if they would he satisfied with a guarantee of an average of £2 2s per day. In. the meantime the chairman asked -members to bring this matter before farmers t.n see what, number Of cows would he ready for the operator when he comes into the district. Dairy Control Bill. Some discussion took place as to the best methods of hacking un the Dairv Control Bill. It was finally resolved that a meeting be called under
the auspices of the branch, with the view of organising a campaign in sunport of the Bill, details of same to be loft in the hands of the Dairy Commiltec. / Mr Macky. in speaking to the motion, said he could not understand the altitude of the Waikato Sub-Pro-vincial, in not taking this branch into its confidence. They have, simply ignored this branch in connection with matters concerned with the Dairy Control Bill. The chairman said he would try whon attending meetings in future to
hold up this branch’s end of the stick. Local Advertising. Mr Beer brought un the matter of local bodies not advertising in the local paper. Mr Beer said he owned property bordering on the Tamahere boundary, apd although he considered himself a Cambridge settler, nothing was ever mentioned in the local paper about meeting or (Statutory advertisements in connection with his district. Other members spoke of a similar experience, and it was resolved to write to the Tamahere Road Board asking them to advertise all statutory matter in the local paper as well as other papers. Forestry. Mr Jas. Kelley offered to supply trees to farmers through the union at 30 per cent, reduction on present ruling prices, provided that the requirements for next season were ordered not later than November of this year. These would be better than those ordinarily supplied because they could be set at least twoJnchos apart, and' would not be less than 12 inches high when supplied.
Mr S. 11. Judd said the offer was an excellent one, and should be encouraged. It was resolved to appoint a committee consisting of one man in each district to canvass for orders and that Mr Keeley be asked to get out a circular with prices, etc., to be sent to all farmers.
Several -members present promised to advocate the scheme in their respective districts.
Parking Cars at Night. Mr S. H. Judd brought up the matter of the Hamilton Borough Council having set aside a portion of their street where cars might be parked at night without lights, and he moved that the Cambridge Borough Council be written to requesting that they amend their by-law to allow of the same system as that adopted by the Hamilton Borough. Mr Perkins seconded the motion which was carried unanimously.
