CHILD FATALLY SCALDED.
FELL INTO THE BATH. ACCIDENT AT HOSPITAL. The death occurred at the Waikato Hospital on Saturday evening of a child named Marjory Weston, aged seven years, the daughter of Mr- W. M. Weston, of Huntly.
An inquest yeas opened on Sunday before Mr H. A. Young, Coroner. Evidence was given that deceased and her sister were convalescent scarlet fever patients in the isolation ward of the Hospital. On Friday evening the deceased, in company with two children aged 15 and 10, were told by the nurse in charge to bathe themselves. The water was turned on in the bath, and the two elder girls lefj. the room for a moment. They heard a scream and found deceased still clothed in the bath with the hot water running. She was badly scalded and died from her injuries on Saturday. The medical superintendent said it was customary to let children bathe themselves, and the nurse had committed an error of judgment which he himself might have committed. The deceased had said she slipped and fell into the bath.
