MASTER CARRIERS.

GENERAL MEETING

A general meeting of the Hamilton Master Carriers' Association was held in Lowry's tea rooms on Thursday. There was a large and representative attendance, including leading carriers from outlying districts. The president, in introducing the business, referred to the fact that the Association had made a promising start, having successfully contested a by-law case where the matter in question was the unreasonableness of loads allowed to be carried under this particular by-law.

Matters referring to the general welfare of the community, both in the public interest and in the interests of the carrying trade, were fully discussed and resolutions passed accordingly. The secretary outlined the various nenellts accruing to members of the association, and it was the unanimous opinion of all present (including many new members) that the association would help the carriers in the Waikalo in Ihe matter of trade, prices, legal advice, etc. The chairman, in extending a welcome to the new members, referred to the purpose of the association in forming country branches, locally controlled, witli delegates on the executive, who will then confer with similar associations with a view to concerted action in matters of vital interest to the association, such as the Highway Bill, etc. A cordial vole of thanks was passed to Messrs Gibb and Johnston, of Ngaruawahia, for services rendered.
