This was one of llic most, brilliant matches played jn the tournament. The Australians were leading. 4—l. in Hie third set. when !heir opponents, getting a lucky break. assumed the lead and worked to victory, though nearly ail games went to deuce ami each point was- hard-fought.
Ilawkes and Anderson defeated Griffin and Johnston. G—i, 4—-0, 7 —5, :i—2. The Australians played magnificent tennis, and were superior Ihruughoul, well earning their victory over the American pair, who rank high. Ilawkes' steadiness and Anderson's hard hitting counted heavily. Griffin falling down at pinches.
