ECLIPSE OF THE MOON.
VISIBLE ON SUNDAY NEXT.
On August 26 a partial eclipse of the moon will be visible throughout New Zealand. The following are the circumstances of the eclipse:— Moon enters penumbra, August 26, 7.42 p.m.
Moon enters shadow, August 26, 9.22 p.m.
Middle of eclipse, August 26, 10.10 p m.
Moon leaves shadow, August 26, 10.57 p.m. Moon leaves penumbra, August 27, 0.36 a.m.
Magnitude of the eclipse, 0.168 (moon's diameter, 1.000). The position angle, of the first contact measured from the moon's north point, is 140 degrees to east, and the last contact 171 degrees to west.
A rough idea of these points on the limb may be got by imagining the moon's disc as a clock face; then, looking at the moon the point of first contact will be at about half-past two, and the last contact at about twelve o'clock.
