NOMINATIONS CLOSED
PLETHORA OF ASPIRANTS,
FIVE WOMEN CANDIDATES.

Nominations for the Free State general 'election closed yesterday. Although the total is not available, indications point to over 450 aspirants for 153 scats.
Captain Redmond, son of the late Mr John Redmond, is nominated as an Independent for Waterford. Other candidates for four Waterford seats are Mrs Bingham, whose husband was killed in the fighting in SackvMle Street, Dublin, two farmer candidates, two Labour men, and another Independent. The number of women candidates is at least five, and these include the late Mr Michael Collins' sister, Mrs Driscoll, and the Countess Markievicz. Many interests are represented—farming, labour, business, and so forth, but there are no temperance or liquor candidates. LONDON, August 19.
Mr. \V. T. Cosgrave, President of the Dai'l, announces that it is the Government's intention to arrest Patrick Rutledge, who was appointed by De Valera as " acting-president of the republic." Rutledge is a candidate at the Free State elections for North Mayo.
