Tho oponing of tho lawn tennis championships at Wimbledon was most disappointing. Rain prevented play on the centro o-ourt until 5 p.m. The most interesting result was the defeat of Mlshu (Roumania) by Godfreo (England), 6—4, o—6, 6 —2, 9 —7, E. O. Anderson, brother of the famous Sydnoy player, scratched in the first round to Aldorson, the Yorkshire champion. Mavrogordato beat Sayers (Australia), 6—3, 6 —3, 6—o,
N.Z. CHAIWPIONSHIPB. CHIUSTCHURCH, Tuesday. At a meeting of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association, it was decided that; the association should agree to accept 'the New Zealand championship meeting under the existing conditions. The association would endeavour to carry out the wishes of the New Zealand Association, and would adopt the financial arrangements suggested.
