ILL-FATED TREVESSA.

MESSAGE FROM CAPTAIN.

18 OF THE CREW LANDED.

OTHERS BELIEVED TO BE SAFE.-

Australian nnd N.Z- Cable Assn. Received June 28, 10.30 a.m. LONDON, June 27. The Trevessa's owners have received a cable from the captain stating that the chief engineer and sixteen of the crew have landed on the Rodriquez Islands, in the Indian Ocean, and that he believes the rest who are in another boat are safe. SEARCH FOR SECOND BOAT. WARSHIP LEAVES COLOMBO. (Australian and N.Z. Csbl* Assn.) Received June 28, 12.45 p.m. LONDON, June 27. The Admiralty has been advised that two members of the crew of the Trevessa in the captain's boat died at sea. They parted with the other boat, which was ordered to proceed to Rodriquez, on June 9. A warship from Colombo has been ordered to search for the second boat.

On Monday, June 5, wireless messages were received to the effect that the Trevessa was going down, and that the crew (43 all told) were taking to the boats. At the time she was 2000 miles from Fremantle, the near-, est ship being 400 miles off. Steamers hastened to the spot, and efforts to find the boats proved fruitless. The search, however, was continued until a day or two ago, when it was finally abandoned. The news that 18 of the crew (which comprised 31 British and 12 coloured firemen) have reached land will reawaken hope that the others will yet be saved. ~ ,
