EASTERN STATES SWEPT.

The subsidence of a live-day hoat wave in the Eastern States was marked by electric storms, tornadoes, and gales of cyclonic power, killing scores, and injuring hundreds in their sweep westward over the United States from the Mississippi river. The downpour washed away the crops in some localities, but elsewhere revived growth.
